New York Stage and Film's Winter Gala honors Julianna Margulies and Marc Platt, December 13, 2009.

On Sunday, December 13, at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, New York Stage and Film will honor Margulies and Platt for their extraordinary achievements in theater, film and television, as well as their ongoing commitment to live performance and support of SAF, at the 25th annual Winter Gala. Each summer, Vassar College and New York Stage and Film collaborate to present the Powerhouse Theater Program, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary season. The annual Winter Gala helps to support this program and this year will be held at the Plaza Hotel (770 Fifth Avenue), beginning at 7:00pm with cocktails followed by dinner and entertainment at 8:00pm. The ticket price (a portion of which is tax-deductible) begins at $350; tickets can be purchased by calling New York Stage and Film at (212) 736–4240.

Announcing casting of "Vera Laughed" and Powerhouse Theater's Inside Look play workshops

The 25th anniversary season of Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater will continue through Sunday, August 2, with Mainstage performances of the new musical The Burnt Part Boys (7/17 - 26) and the play Vera Laughed (7/22 - 8/2); the Martel Musical Tina Girlstar (7/31 - 8/1); the Inside Look workshop series of new plays Slight Hitch (sold-out, 7/17 - 19) and Shoe Story (7/23 - 25). Concluding the season will be the ever-popular Readings Festival 2 (7/30 - 8/2) with new plays by Andrew Dolan, Beth Henley, Dan Moran, John Patrick Shanley, and Regina Taylor. Special discount to Powerhouse's new musical The Burnt Part Boys for Hudson Valley residents and students, July 17-26, 2009

In celebration of 25 seasons of bringing great new theater to the Hudson Valley, Vassar & New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater will offer all residents of Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster counties a special discounted ticket for the new musical The Burnt Part Boys (15% discount / $29.75). In addition, Powerhouse is offering all full-time students, accompanied by an adult, in Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster counties (aged 25 and under) a $5 student ticket in advance with valid student identification (otherwise this special ticket is usually offered 15 minutes before curtain, as available

An East African woman finds her voice in a new play by Deborah Asiimwe, performed by the Powerhouse Apprentice Company and directed by Emily Mendelsohn. One performance only, July 4, 2009.

The Powerhouse Apprentice Company will perform a new play, Untitled, by Deborah Assimwe, directed by Emily Mendelsohn, on Saturday, July 4. Free and open to the public, the performance will begin at 7pm in the Susan Stein Shiva Theater. Untitled tells the story of Lake, a young East Africa writer, finding her voice in a patriarchal culture. Without her family's blessing, Lake leaves her remote village and travels across the world to a California art school. She writers her own future, through her memories and explores her African heritage, both traditional and colonial. Assimwe's play weaves together physical and metaphorical journeys along with African folklore, song and dance.

Powerhouse Summer Suppers at Café on the Quad available on Fridays & Saturdays, July 3 - Aug. 1, 2009.

Powerhouse Theater has joined with five Arlington restaurants and will offer "Powerhouse Summer Suppers at Café on the Quad," on Friday and Saturday evenings - July 3 to August 1 - from 5:30 to 8:00pm (note there is no offering on July 4). Powerhouse patrons will now be able to relax, savor, and enjoy a selection of cuisines on five weekends this summer. These will be offered on a rotating basis by Arlington's Babycakes Café, Beech Tree Grill (with desserts by Bittersweet), the Dubliner, Twisted Soul, and Zorona Restaurant.
