Celebrated screenwriter/director Paul Weitz brings his talent to the Powerhouse Theater for workshop presentation of "Roulette,"
on August 1-3.
Vassar and New York Stage and Film are pleased to announce the world premiere workshop presentation of "Roulette," a new play by Paul Weitz, directed by Jace Alexander. The production will run August 1-3 at the Powerhouse Theater on the Vassar College campus.
"Roulette" is an exploration of the tragedy and hilarity of suburban life. Jon is married to Enid, who is having an affair with Steve, who is married to Virginia, who thinks she might like to be a nun. As fast-paced as any Las Vegas casino table, Roulette is a comic and moving play about refusing to give up on life.
The presentation is written by celebrated director and writer Paul Weitz. Weitz's directing credits include the smash-hit comedy "American Pie," along with the critically acclaimed films "Down to Earth" and "About A Boy." Weitz is also executive producer for this summer's highly anticipated movie, "American Wedding," which opens nationally August 1 and is the final installment in the "American Pie" series. He co-wrote the screenplays for "Antz," "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps," and "About A Boy," which, in 2003, earned Weitz an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Weitz's playwriting credits include "Mango Tea," which featured Marisa Tomei, and "All For One."
Director Jace Alexander's previous work includes the hit television shows "Lizzie McGuire," "Law & Order," and "Ally McBeal." Alexander also directed the Off-Broadway production of David Marshall Grant's "Snakebit."
"Roulette" will feature actor Craig Bierko, who starred as Professor Harold Hill in the Broadway revival of "The Music Man." Bierko was also seen on Broadway in "Thou Shalt Not" and on screen in "The Thirteenth Floor." Mark Blum ("Down to You"), Merritt Wever ( TV's "Law and Order"), Carolyn McCormick ("A Simple Twist of Fate"), Maddie Corman ("Maid in Manhattan"), and Matt Bomer (TV's "Guiding Light") round out this stellar cast.
"Roulette" will be performed on August 1 and 2 at 8pm and on August 3 at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased through the Powerhouse Box Office in person or by phone, at either (845) 437-7235 or (845) 437-5599.
